Subway Restaurant May Be Coming to Bedford

According to Massachusetts Public Notices, a Subway Restaurant is looking to open at 168 Great Road in the Great Road Marketplace. The most likely location would be the former Verizon Wireless Store which closed suddenly last March.

Comment:
Bedford seems to be undergoing a boom in new restaurants. With the addition of Subway, there are 7 restaurants planned/under construction. This includes b.Good, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Ginger, Ken's Deli, Panera Bread, Subway and Wicked Good Frozen Yogurt. While a restaurant had been planned for the former Travelodge, this is currently on hold.

Can Bedford support all these new restaurants? What do you think?

It is about time for variety. Residents have gone out of Bedford for different eateries. Now Bedford residents and workers that come into town can patron Bedford places. Yes we can support all places by staying within Bedford borders. Our teengers are going to burlington and lexington for their afterschool treats, now they can support Bedford places as they come into town, panera, yogurt, chiptotle, subway etc

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for the comment. You bring up an interesting point. It would be useful to measure what percentage of Burlington and Lexington restaurant revenue comes from Bedford residents and if this would change once all the new restaurants come online. I'll have to do some digging. I bet the credit card companies can provide some of this information.

Adam I would love that data! But cash would gray the black and white accuracy. Still would be interesting.

what's telling is that Flatbread Restaurant calls their location as Burlington on their website despite it having a Bedford address.

Yep. It's right on the Border. They seem to list it as both - http://www.flatbreadcompany.com/FlatbreadBurlington2010.html

Seems like a lot of places do this. Max and Dylan's lists their address as Bedford even though they are in Billerica. The Marriott Courtyard is a few miles from Bedford but they call themselves Courtyard Billerica/Bedford

As a Bedford native (now living elsewhere), I do have to say that while it's nice to see new businesses opening up - especially new restaurants; I agree with Anonymous that food options within town limits are limited - I wish that there weren't so many chains! Chain stores, especially fast-food/semi-fast-food eateries, really detract from the character of the town IMO.

With respect to chains. It is a challenge for most family/small retailers/restaurants. One thing we are working on to help attract small business is to simplify things for them to open in Bedford. If you're interested in helping, please drop me a note.

Thanks

Adam we still have a long way to go. The town of bedford are puffing out their chests of authority. Blake block should be opened by now. Very disappointing to read how town officials are dragging the opening. Simplify things no still not so easy for new openings. Very disappointing.

Hi Anonymous,

As far as I know, retail on Blake Block can open. There is a temporary occupancy permit. There is a lot of build out going on right now and I expect the businesses to be opening soon. I'll do some checking and see if I can get some more specific dates.

It would be great to have some independent restaurants instead of chains.Arlington,Lexington and Somerville have unique dining experiences that are reasonable. In a pinch, I may eat at a Chipolte or a Pannera, but an authentic Indian, Asian,Brazilian or other unique meal is worth a night out and a ride. Mall food can be had anywhere.

Instead of slowing up black block. Go to the old arts in flowers property it is a site for sore eyes junk everywhere. What is up with this right on great road. It would be nice if Bedford brought in a real good fish sit down Restaurant. Enough with all the fast food places.. Will still have to go out of Bedford for a good home cooked meal...no wonder kids are so fat and parents
.

To attract more people in the establishment it's always good to also pay attention with the overall design of the place. Just to entice them.
