Bedford Marketplace Renovation Becoming More Likely

The long anticipated renovation of Bedford Marketplace on Great Road may be coming closer to fruition. The shopping center, which has Marshall's and Whole Foods as it's anchor tenants, had formalized plans for a renovation in early 2008 but the faltering economy put things on hold. With the recent improvement in the retail environment, the shopping center owner and developer, Salvatore Capital Partners is in a much better position to move forward with the renovation. There are still a few details to be worked out such as lease addendums and updated plans but the developer would like to move forward with the renovations.

The renovation is expected to include additional retail spaces, bike racks, a pedestrian greenway, benches and outdoor dining for tenant restaurants.

Retail in Bedford appears to be going strong. The two empty spaces in Bedford Marketplace (previously a Cambridge Savings Bank and Mobile Store) will become a b.Good restaurant and a Subway. Great Road Shopping Center is adding a Great Clips hair salon and a Chipotle Mexican Grill while the Blake Block has already rented out 5 of their 7 store fronts.

What store would you like to most see added to Bedford Marketplace?

When will the Subway and b.Good be opening? I know the Chipotle will be opening in May...

It looks like work just started on b.Good so I would guess a few months. Not sure about Subway. On the other hand I expect Panera Bread along with Ginger to open in April.

Really looking forward to these renovations, hope they follow through! Thanks for reporting on this Adam, I know you check on it from time to time and as always your work is appreciated!

Nothing will thrive at this location unless they fix the parking lot and access. It is a mess as well as dangerous.

The renovations are supposed to redo the access and circulation around the shopping center.

In the short term, once b.good and subway open, I think finding parking in the front section at lunchtime will become more difficult.

I also hope renovation includes a plan for the wooded area/trails nearby (such as lighting or other natural improvements to the area) as the homeless/vagrant/unstable persons in there have been unsettling to anyone accessing the shopping center from the bikeway
