More Details on The Comella's Restaurant Coming to Bedford Marketplace

As earlier reportedComella's Restaurant expects to open this spring at 158 H Great Road in the Bedford Marketplace in the same building where the new Bank of America is located. The family run restaurant chain, which has about a dozen other location in Massachusetts, offer Salads, Sandwiches, Soups, Pastas, Pizzas, Traditional Italian Entrees and Desserts. Comella's just purchased a full alcohol license from Ka-Noon Thai Cuisine (which closed a few months ago) and so should have a full selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks.

While most of the other Comella's have about 20 seats and focus on take out, the Bedford location is expected to be different. The new restaurant which will be around 3500 square feet, is expected to have close to 100 seats. There will be two sections of this restaurant. A counter service section  where you place the order and then food is brought to you (similar to Ken's Deli) and a full service section where you order at the table. This full service section will also contain a bar area.

Comments:
With the second new building at Bedford Marketplace completed and work on the third building proceeding rapidly, additional restaurants will be re-opening in the next few months including b.good, Bruegger's Bagels and Subway.

As far as Cafe Luigi, a December 14th note on their Facebook page states "We are still working hard towards reopening in the Spring and are confident that we will be able to accomplish this."

So we get to see a Comella's instead of the town favorite Cafe Luigi? Someone is sweeping this under the rug for sure. I don't plan on eating at this new gig at all and plan to wait for my favorite. Even if in another town. Sick of chains in Bedford.

Comella's is a local chain, while Cafe Luigi is owned by the same local company that owns Mario's in Lexington and other (non-Italian) restaurants around. What's the difference, besides the fact that Luigi was here for years?

Wait till you taste the food. Luigi's might be a local chain, but the food is much better even if family fare. Just have to wait and see.

I've eaten at both. Luigi's all the way.

Comella's is nice, but Luigi's was an institution and destination. Comella's will NEVER be a destination drawing people to Bedford since they have a location in Concord and elsewhere. So, the comment that "what difference does it make" is likely from someone who is likely new to Bedford or directly connected to the property owner. It also sounds eerily like Hillary Clinton trying to deflect criticism of her misrepresentations on our Benghazi Ambassador being killed. Losing Luigi's makes this plaza less appealing, drives less traffic to the other merchants in plaza. Luigi's also generated quite a bit of tax revenue for the town via the meals tax.

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for the comments. Once Comella's opens, we should be able to tell if it draws as many people as Luigi's did or not. Will be interesting to see how it compares.

I agree with your comments about Hilary Clinton. NOT a fan of her lies and cover-ups.
Have never had a meal at COMELIAS ,but our family tried Red Heat Tavern and got
food poisoning so new places in our veteran Bedford family is
not exciting for any of us.
Adam, how is Red Heat Revenue doing? crowded or not?
The marketplace construction site is a danger zone and looks like the buildings should require more land around them. Hopefully code was followed, looks crowded and not on an adequate scale of space and building size..Distorted.

We do miss Luigis for eat in and take out and gift certificates.
my vote is for Luigis.

As far as I can tell, Red Heat Tavern seems to be fairly busy. Things in the restaurant business are a little quiet this time of year though. We should get a better feel as we get in to Spring.

As far as Bedford Marketplace, there is supposed to be a "Greenway" between the two new buildings which should help make things feel less crowded. See this image for how it should look.

While the new buildings are still one story they are taller than the buildings they replaced. The taller building are now pretty common for new and renovated shopping centers. Many people like how the higher ceilings give an impression of more open space inside the buildings.

I was just reading through all the comments about the Bedford Market Place. We miss Luigi's. It was homey and cozy, and the food was yummy!! I'm not excited about trying Comella's. It feels like an imposter. As for Red Heat is concerned, I didn't like it, and I haven't heard anything good about it. So, I wonder how it keeps going. With all these new restaurants, (and to change the subject a little bit) and with all the construction and destruction of trees and old character homes, Bedford just isn't the same anymore. It's sad.

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for the comments. I have not tried Comella's. I'm interested in seeing how it is. Red Heat appears to do pretty well - it's fairly busy especially on weekends.

The renovation appears to be moving along pretty well. Should look better with all the new tree's and grass coming in over the next few weeks. I do like the Granite Path they put in.

On the homes, I agree there are a lot of them being torn down and much bigger ones being put up. I think this trend has about 5 more years. There seems to be less interest in big houses with the latest generation.

Also b.good just reopened this morning.

Still no news on Luigi's. I see their Facebook page is down.

Comellas is NOT good quality food. It clearly is a step down from Luigis.
